History and Culture

Peregian is the native Kabi Kabi word for emu. During World War II, Peregian Beach, Sunshine Beach and surrounding areas were used for artillery training by the Australian military. Today, Peregian Beach is a popular holiday destination, with locals also gathering to enjoy delicious food or picnics at the beachfront reserve.
